The word salon is French, originally meaning "reception room." In 1800's France, the meaning grew to include a "gathering of elegant people" occurring regularly in such a room.

 Originating in 16th-century Italy and flourishing in 17th-18th century France under female hosts (salonnières), they served as crucial venues for spreading Enlightenment ideas and remain a way to connect over shared interests, offering deeper engagement than typical book clubs or social events.

Conversations at Nia Literary Salon are open, responsive, and wide-ranging, shaped by the interests of the community and the pressing questions of our time. Discussions may move freely between history, politics, philosophy, culture, art, and storytelling, as well as the everyday - love, friendship, pop culture, and life’s lighter moments, over a drink and shared meal. No topic is too big or too small; what matters is thoughtful dialogue and genuine human connection.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Open to anyone who enjoys

thoughtful conversation -  professionals, readers, writers, creatives, students, professionals, and community members alike. No literary background is required.

All you need is curiosity, openness, and a desire to connect.

WHY NIA? 

Nia means purpose. The salon exists to hold space for purposeful dialogue. Conversations that inspire reflection, deepen understanding, and strengthen community bonds.
